Parents can find a quick summary of what we are doing each week on the weekly class newsletter. I email it to parents each Friday, as well as send a paper copy home with students. In the newsletter you'll also find each week's spelling lists and weekly announcements. If you are not receiving the weekly newsletter please let me know at sonja.casady@k12northstar.org so I can add your to our mailing list!
Recent research shows that there is no benefit to students who complete weekly homework before 6th grade (it can actually have a negative impact.) As a result, I do not assign homework and encourage kids to play and spend time with family after school. We ask that families read 20 minutes each day as part of a healthy lifestyle, but we do not require anything be turned in. Students have time each day in class to study for the spelling test. However, families are welcome to help students study at home, if needed. If you would like additional work for your child, feel free to have them explore our Technology Links, Ms. Casady's Read Alouds, or Challenge Work.
