Parents can find a quick summary of what we are doing each week in the Weekly Update newsletter. I email it to parents each Friday, as well as send a paper copy home with students. In the newsletter you'll also find each week's spelling lists, what we are working on, and announcements. Research shows that there is NO benefit to students who complete weekly homework before 6th grade (it can actually have a negative impact.) As a result, I assign minimal homework and encourage kids to play, explore hobbies, and spend time with family after school. I ask that students read for 20 minutes each day as part of a healthy lifestyle. There will also be a home reading log that needs to be turned in each Friday.
Students have time each day in class to study for the spelling test. However, families are welcome to help students study at home, if needed. The newsletter has a link to fun games your child can play online with the spelling words.
If you would like additional school work for your child, feel free to have them log into My Path (directions here) for individualized self-paced reading/math lessons. They can also explore our Technology Links, Ms. Casady's Read Alouds, or Challenge Work.
